Road Star

1970 CB750

1977 CB750

This Site Is All About One Of My Passions, Motorcycles.
Over The Years I have Owned Several Bikes. My First Being A 5 hp Rupp Ryder When I Was 10 Years Old. Not Much Power, But A Lot Of Fun. I Was Always Working On It, Just To Keep It Running.
I've Had  My Motorcycle Drivers License Since 1973. Since That Time I Have Owned Several Triumphs, A Couple Of Harleys, But Most Of Them Have Been CB750's. I Seemed To Get Stuck In That Time And Space Warp.
One Common Thing With Them All Was, I Was Constantly Working On Them. I Just Couldn't Leave One Alone, Or As My Dad Used To Say, I Just Couldn't Leave Well Enough Alone.
I Didn't Think I Would Ever Change, But About Two Years Ago That Did Change. A Dog Ran Out In Front Of Me, Causing Me To Roll My 1977 CB750 Over An Embankment. I Broke A Rib On The Back Side, Where It Connects To The Spine. I Think It Was A Toss Up Which Was Going To Break First, My Neck, Or The Rib. My Neck Was Out Of Whack For A Few Months, But Nothing Major. Now My Back, That's Another Story. I was Pretty much Out Of Commision For A Year Over That One.
I've Crashed Several Bikes Over The Years, But Always Healed Pretty Quick. But This One Has Taken Awhile.  Must Be An Old Guy Thing.
After That One, Kate, My Wife, Tried To Talked Me Into Getting A New Bike That Would Be More Dependable And I Didn't Have To Work On.  "Get One You Will Not Have To Work On,  Leave It Alone, And Just Ride It". This Haunted Me. What Kind Of Bike Could I Get That I Didn't Need To Change Anything On?
I Was A Honda Man, But I Researched Different Bikes And Brands. I Knew I Wanted An Air Cooled Bike. I also Didn't Want A Shaft Drive. I Don't Think I Ever Forgave Honda For Coming Out With A Shaft Drive on The CB900. I waited A Long Time For It To Come Out, And To My Horror, A Shaft Drive!
I Was Quite Taken With The New Yamaha Star Roadliner. I Had Only Owned One Yamaha Before. It Was A 750 Parallel Twin Chopper. It Was A Lot Like The 650 Triumphs I had Owned, Except I didn't Have To Work On It, Unless  I  Wanted To!  It Had 1200 Miles On It When I Bought It. I Never Had To Do Any Thing To It Except Routine Maintenance, And Of Course To Take Off Parts, And Put On Other Parts.  I Just Ran The Wheels Off Of That Thing!   That Is Until Someone Wanted It Worse Than I Did. STOLEN!!!! Out Of All The Triumphs And Harleys, Really Nice Bikes, They Stole My Stinking Yamaha!!!!!!
I Couldn't Make Up My Mind. I Had Always Been A Chopper Kinda Guy.  I Found A Beautiful Harley FXST. It Had Everything! I Was In Love!! My Wife Said, Honey,   (I Hate When She Calls Me That. I Know   She's About To Disagree With Me Over Something, And I Can't Remember The Last Time I Won, If There Ever Was A Time), Honey, I Think, (Oh No, Here We Go. I Better Say Something Quick.) --But, Sweetheart---- Honey, (Oh Well, I Tried)  I Think You Should Get Something That You Can Carry More Stuff On.  Huh! What!! You Mean A Geezer Glide!!?!!?!!  ME?!!     If That's What They are Called, Then I Think You Should Get One.
After The Shock, And Panic Had Subsided, I Started Thinking (Yea, I Know. Kinda Surprised Me Too). I Still Wasn't Sure. I Checked Out All The Different Touring Bikes. I just Couldn't Find Exactly What I Wanted. I Quess What I Was Looking For Was A Chopped Bagger.  It Seemed That No Matter What I Bought, I Was Going To Be Making Changes.
I Finally Put A Down Payment on A Roadliner To hold It For Me until The End Of December (While I Made Up My Mind). It Was Nearing The End Of December, And I Decided To Go With The Road Star. Why? Because It Had A Steel Frame (I Can Weld Steel), It Had A Carb (I Can Change Carbs), And They Were Willing To Make A Deal. (Roadliners, They Wouldn't Deal). I Gave $8,000 For The Bike, And With Another $5,000-$6,000 I Can Have Exactly The Bike I Want. It Will Still Be Cheaper Than Any Of The Touring Bikes I Had Looked At.
Kate Still Doesn't Understand Why I Would Buy A Bike That I Had To Work On. Why I Didn't Just Buy A Bike That Had Everything On It Already. I Told Her That When I'm Finished ( If Only She Knew) It Will Be MY    Bike, No One Else's, MINE. She Still Doesn't Understand, But That's Because She Doesn't Have The Passion, That Fire, That Burning.
You Do Understand, Don't You?  Don't You?
